We think that Meredith has said her first word. At first we weren’t sure it was intentional but now we’re pretty sure. She has been saying dada for a while now – of course, it would be “dad” first – but it wasn’t until two days ago that we realized she says it most often when Kevin either walks into the room or leaves the room. Apparently she knows exactly who she’s talking about. In fact, it often sounds like she says, “Hey, dada!”
We’ve also started feeding her Cheerios (which is great since it buys me time if we’re running errands and she gets hungry!). It’s adorable. She grunts loudly to indicate she wants another one. Then, as soon as we pop it in her mouth, she says “mmmmmm.” And then she makes these funny chomping facial expressions.
I think it’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Ever.
Parenting has been fun all along … but it’s starting to get a lot more fun.

That is great, Amy!!! Too, too cute!! I think each stage does get more and more fun!!! Brad so wishes Kathryn would learn "dada" :o). I can't wait to meet little Meredith!!
I remember that Addie recognized "Daddy" as that wonderful guy who came home every day and played with her. It was many, many more months before she connected "Mama" with that person who was with her all the time. My mother said that mothers are like air: necessary, but not as interesting.
Meredith will get only more fun as she gets older!

SJ is right....I read a study that said that babies with stay-at-home moms are far less likely to say "mama" first because they don't necessarily see their mothers as separate entities from themselves. In a 2-yr old it transforms itself into thinking they can boss you around, because you are perceived as their personal slave. Then Daddy sweeps in and gets obeyed better, and gets the fun playtime. Payback comes when they take their first steps and you call your husband at work to tell him; when they say a new word; and when you get chubby little arms thrown around your neck and a juicy kiss planted on your lips. -rlr
Or maybe it's just that "Dada" is more fun to say. D1 called us both "Dada" for months even though we always referred to DOB as Papa. She has us figured out now, though.
