While I'm at it ...

While I'm bemoaning what this world is coming to, here is one last post for the day. I promise. This girl's gotta get dinner on the table!

Another blogger today posted breaking news:

9th Cir. Rules Parents Have No Fundamental Right to Be Exclusive Sex Educators of Their Children

The opinion reads: "[W]e hold that there is no free-standing fundamental right of parents 'to control the upbringing of their children by introducing them to matters of and relating to sex in accordance with their personal and religious values and beliefs' and that the asserted right is not encompassed by any other fundamental right. In doing so, we do not quarrel with the parents' right to inform and advise their children about the subject of sex as they see fit. We conclude only that the parents are possessed of no constitutional right to prevent the public schools from providing information on that subject to their students in any forum or manner they select. We further hold that a psychological survey is a reasonable state action pursuant to legitimate educational as well as health and welfare interests of the state."

Wow. I guess the moral of that story is, don't put your kids in public school if you want to retain the full bundle of your parental rights.

The real scary thing is that, if parental rights are being consistently chipped away, what will soon happen to the right of parents to NOT place their kids in public school?

Remind me to tell you the complete story of an educator’s conference I attended about 10 years ago! When I heard with my own ears the thoughts and plans these school district superintendents had for each school, I couldn’t help but sit frozen in my chair in a state of shock. They want to mold each child into their idea of an American citizen. Jokes were made that today’s parents are doing WELL if they would only provide enough food, clothing and a warm place for the child to sleep eight hours each night. Not to worry, the school experts know how to handle the rest! Specifically, many stories were told of Christian parents who were bothered by their agenda. Each situation brought the house down in fits of evil laughter. Today’s mainstream educator believes most parents are utter fools! ~siw

Sherri - What you say echos my personal expierience here in California dealing with state educators and also friends who are public school teachers. It's amazing. Studies show kids do better in education and life if their parents are involved. Public schools consistently, however, undermine parental involvement and, like you say, think parents are fools.
