Goldie Locks No More

For some time now Meredith has been asking me to cut her hair. Aparently I had put her off too long because she decided to take matters into her own hands. On Sunday afternoon she cut more than six inches off both sides of her hair.

Kevin found her holding scissors in one hand and a wad of hair in the other hand. The rest of her locks had been abandoned in a trash can.

Kevin asked her why she cut her hair. She said, “Because I wanted it short like mommy… now we have two womens in our family.”

I tried to salvage some of the back of her hair and give her some layers but, in the end, it didn’t look quite right. Kevin and I both agreed that everything had to go.

Although she looks cute in her new do—older, and more mischievous, too—I am saddened by the suddenness of everything. I wasn’t quite prepared to say goodbye to all those golden brown curls.

While I was cutting her hair, she warned me not to cut it too short, “like a boy.” But apparently I wasn’t successful because while at a restaurant the next day, the server asked, “Anything to drink for the little guy?”

Oh no! Your salvaging cut looks great though! Maybe she can just wear lots of pink this summer, but I don't think it looks boyish!

I think her new hair cut looks precious. She does look like a big girl now. Why can't they wait just a little longer?

I'm not sure what the server was thinking -- she's definately not boyish looking at all!

Oh, it is a cute cut! She must have some sense of style since she didn't chop it close to her head. Mark did that one summer and he had to get nearly shaved; he had stubble all over. He HATED it. Ben loves going to get his hair cut and hates using scissors. So I've not worried; but the girl....She's gonna do it someday. I'm sure.

Are you kidding me? She does NOT look like a boy. But people can be clueless... and there are those parents who let their son's hair grow too long because of their baby curls. I remember seeing this one little toddler with shoulder length curls and asked what "her" name was... it was a boy. Now HOW was I supposed to know? What boy has shoulder length hair at 3!?

Good job on the hair cut Amy!

I agree. She doesn't look at all like a boy. And your "little woman" is still just as cute as ever!

Awww...she's so cute! Most children have to do that at least once! I know I chopped my hair off when I was a child. Great job on the salvage cut! I'm really impressed--it looks great!

So, my favorite part of this is the look of COMPLETE pleasure on Mer's face as she looks in the mirror. You KNOW she's thinking to herself, "Dang .... I look goooood!"

Oh, she's absolutely adorable with that cut -- and completely feminine. Little guy, honestly. How funny that she considers short hair to be the mark of "womens."
