500-Pound Man Rescued After 12 Hours in River

Did you guys see this incredible story on Drudge today?

I’m still trying to figure out why this man ever tried to go tubing in the first place.

“The aircraft that found him [stranded] said they could not lift that amount of weight.”

If an airplane couldn’t handle him, why on earth did he ever think an inflatable device could?

Did you watch the clip on the link that you posted of the news cast that reported this? The clip that immediately starts after that one is great. It's about an Australian rugby player, if that helps... Are you sure that that site isn't the National Inquirer in disguise?

For some reason my video isn't working at this moment. I think the story is legit, though.

Here are major news outlets' coverage:

Fox News:

Washington Post:

Alas, no, Christian. I live in the market where WCCO tv is, and it's not even the most national inquirer-esque of some of the stuff we see. There's one station here whose main goal must be to find stories like these, only worse, because they regularly dig through people's garbage to find their stories. I kid you not. They especially like digging through politicians' garbage. =)

As for the man, I'm not sure if I think this is a good thing or a bad thing. In some ways, it's nice he's attempting to enjoy life outside of his home - something many other obese people do not. At the same time, though. Really? You thought this would work?

Not to be judgmental because I realize obese peoples’ rights is the “next frontier” but if this guy had spent more time away in the wild outdoors, away from his refrigerator and fast food sources, maybe he wouldn’t have had this problem. I don't feel very sorry for him. Hopefully he'll attempt to lose some weight after this publicity.

What I meant was that truth is stranger than fiction. I was not calling your taste in news into question. My point: the next story was about a rugby player who had a tooth of an opponent stuck in his forehead for over four months before he noticed it! The doctors stitched up the gash caused by said opponent's teeth making contact with said player, but failed to notice the tooth that had embedded itself! Craziness!

Christian - Not offended at all. I think it's hilarious what they come up with. (And also wonder how you could not notice the tooth for that long...) =)
